Jordan circle

Tenor Jordan Fonoti‑Fuimaono is a New Zealand singer from sunny Hawke’s Bay. He began singing in church at the age of eight and later discovered a love for barbershop, crediting his early experience with harmony for shaping his musical instincts. His passion for opera was sparked through Project Prima Volta, the Hawke’s Bay youth opera initiative that introduced him to staged performance and inspired him to pursue tertiary study. Jordan went on to complete a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours and a Master of Music in Advanced Performance Studies at the University of Waikato, followed by an additional Master of Music in Advanced Opera Studies as a Dame Malvina Major Foundation Scholar at Te Pae Kōkako: The Aotearoa New Zealand Opera Studio, studying with Nikki Li Hartliep.

Jordan is a four‑time alumnus of the New Zealand Opera School and the recipient of awards including the Dame Sister Mary Leo Foundation Scholarship (runner‑up, 2023) and the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Scholarship (2025). His operatic roles include Beppe (Pagliacci), Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore, NZ Opera Schools Tour). Concert highlights include Messiah, Carmina Burana, Britten’s Serenade, and Handel’s Athaliah. A successful competitor, Jordan has won the North Shore Aria, the Jim Stevenson Tenor Scholarship, and placed in the Christchurch Aria and New Zealand Aria.
